Sunday Shenanigans

So what did you do on this beautiful, un-winter-like, day? Our family headed up to a shooting range on a friend's property and took turns at target practice. I can't tell you the specific guns we used (because that's just not my thing), but I know there were Beebe guns, rifles, shot guns and hand guns. That's really the extent of my gun type knowledge. I shot a few times but mostly just took pictures.  Here are few "shots" of the day.
My first shot! In the RED.

Great Day for a book release!

So what do you say after not posting for almost two years to the day? How about, "I'm back. Did ya miss me?"
Well, I can honestly say I have missed sitting down and sharing my thoughts on my blog, even if there are only a few of you who follow me :)
But today I am hoping to jump back in with a guest post from a local girl who is truly an amazing writer. I first met Summer lane when Traffic Magazine decided to write an article about her for a recent issue.  I was instantly taken by her passion for writing and intrigued when she started telling me about State of Emergency, the first book of her Collapse Series. Since then, I have been privileged to read all three of Summer's installments to the Collapse Series and I look forward to seeing what's next for Summer and her cast of characters.
So, without further ado,  I welcome Summer to The Peters Porch.

Writing A Series
The Collapse Series is one of those stories that simply developed a mind of its own. Every time I finished a book, I immediately saw the potential for another installment. And so it’s been with the last three installments in my series. State of Rebellion is the third book, and there’s another one on the way. I often feel like I’m talking about a baby…”I’ve got three and one more on the way!” But that’s how authors feel. Their books are their children, and because they love them so much, having more just spreads the joy.
Most of the time.
But let’s not get into that.
 * wink *

State of Emergency was originally meant to be a stand-alone novel, a brief look into the after-effects of an EMP on the United States – and possibly the world. But when I reached the end of the book, it was obvious that Cassidy Hart’s story was far from over. There were so many questions that had to be answered. How would the new world survive? Would she ever find her father? Would her relationship with Chris last? And would anybody stand up and fight back against the shadow army that was invading our home turf? I had to answer these questions, and Cassidy Hart wasn’t going to let me sleep until I did. So I wrote another book, State of Chaos, which continued her tale of survival and romance in post-apocalyptic America. And still, when I reached the end of the second book, I knew that I couldn’t definitely end the tale, either. There were too many loose ends. Too many things to explore. I had to know more!

So I wrote State of Rebellion, which has been the most exciting book to pen thus far. The amount of research I did was quite strenuous. I talked with law enforcement experts and individuals that spent a lot of time on the battlefield to get a feel for what Cassidy Hart might be going through. I wanted her struggle to be real – and I wanted the readers to learn right along with her. I wanted her to grow, because Cassidy Hart started off as a naïve, borderline-oblivious city girl, and now she is a battle-hardened fighter. The transformation from one extreme to the other has been amazingly entertaining and challenging to write, but I’ve loved every minute of it. I hope State of Rebellion is just as fun for you to read as it was for me to write it.
Thanks for giving Cassidy Hart a chance!

Author Biography:

Summer Lane is the author of the national bestselling YA/NA Romantic Adventure novels, State of Emergency, State of Chaos, and State of Rebellion, the first three installments in The Collapse Series. She is a freelance writer, publicist and lover of all things feline. Summer owns WB Publishing, a digital publishing company devoted to releasing exciting survival and adventure stories. In her spare time, Summer is the creator of the online magazine/blog, Writing Belle, in addition to being a co-founder and frequent contributor at NA Alley, a website dedicated to all things New Adult. She works as a creative writing teacher and consultant, as well.

Summer began writing when she was 13 years old, due to the fact that the long afternoons after school were somewhat boring, and writing stories seemed to make the time pass a little quicker. Since then she has written many books about jungle cats, secret agents, princesses and spaceships. She is also a non-fiction writer, but her debut novels of The Collapse Series are her favorite books yet. You can find Summer hopping around on the Internet by following her on Twitter @SummerEllenLane. Want to talk to Summer? Email her at: summerlane101@gmail.com
